Inspired by traditional techniques, Jude produces a range of marbled items, including silk scarves, simple notebooks, limestone coasters, unusual paper jewellery and bold, graphic wall pieces. Marbling involves floating pigments on a tray of size, made from carragheen seaweed. The floating colours are manipulated into an infinite variety of patterns. The design is printed onto a sheet of paper or length of silk. Recent work has involved adaptation of ancient Japanese Marbling, Suminagashi, to produce fluid, rippling designs, which are sometimes applied to 3D objects.
I am an experienced tutor of both adults and children, in both formal and informal settings.
