Pottery Courses - Siramik

Siramik provides half day and one day courses on the potter’s wheel with a promotion that if you book for one, you can bring a friend for FREE. Suitable for absolute beginners and advanced students. Yoka, potter and pottery teacher, also teaches weekend courses with 4 star in-house accommodation. For your loved ones as well as friend giftvouchers, that are valid for a year, are available too.

Come and learn this wonderful skill in our light, spacious studio provided with all tools and materials. Siramik studio, which is situated in the Carmarthenshire Hills, 6 miles north of Carmarthen, has six potter’s wheel and groups will not be larger than 6 students, so that individual tuition and attention can be given. You will learn how to prepare the clay, how to centre this on the wheel, how to create a cylinder from this centred clay and how to create shapes from this cylinder. You will be taught how to create vases, bowls, and depending on the length of the course you choose, plates, bigger bowls and the technique for egg holders and nibbles and dip platters. In a morning course you can expect to make 4 to 5 good pots.

For local would-be potters we offer a 10-week course at the studio on Tuesday and Wednesday evening from 7 till 9pm and Wednesday morning from 10am till 12.30pm (including a good cup of coffee!) You will pay for 9 lessons and get the 10th lesson for free. Please contact Yoka on 07866 000326 for more information.

Paint Your Own Pottery - Gwili Pottery

We really enjoy painting our pots so we thought we would give other people the chance to enjoy the process as well.

Paint Your Own Pottery at GwiliWe hold paint your own pottery sessions every day during the school summer holidays and at least two days a week in other school holidays, along with set weekends every month during the winter.

It's great fun for all the family, from newborns to Granny and Grandad, and everyone in between.

We have a large selection of pieces to paint, to suit every budget.

Beautiful memories can be captured with baby's hand-prints or footprints on ceramics of your choice, or why not paint a personalised vase or plate as wedding gifts.

We also cater for hen parties, groups, clubs or other organisations and we are happy to stay open for evening visits for groups of 10 or more.

Pottery Lessons at Nantyfelin Pottery

Lynne and Rhian enjoying some Pottery timeOur pottery lessons and workshops are not ‘pottery party’ or ‘paint a pot’ days but are aimed at people who are looking for an opportunity to sample pottery in a more rewarding way. A single afternoon learning to slab build or throw, can be a rewarding experience resulting in the making of a ceramic piece to value for many years. We have no absolute age limit, but we recommend children should be over the age of twelve. In any event an adult must accompany young people below the age of sixteen.

Because the nature of pottery making requires more time than can be allotted to an occasional visit, you can choose which of your work you wish to keep and we will finish, fire and glaze it, before sending it to you at home. The cost of this service will depend on what you have made and how much finishing is required but is a nominal amount just to cover our costs of finishing, firing and postage.

Three-hour afternoon sessions are held Monday to Friday. 2pm – 5pm

Three-hour Morning sessions are held on Saturday Mornings only. 10am – 1pm.

Saturday morning sessions are always oversubscribed so please book early if you wish to take advantage of this time. A deposit against a booking will be taken for a Saturday morning booking.

We normally cater for no more than four people at any one session in order to ensure full tuition is given throughout. For a larger party, but no more than eight we will need to discuss requirements.

Caroline busy with her potDays arranged according to availability
We are able to cater for absolute beginners and more advanced students alike. Our spacious and well-equipped studio ensures plenty of opportunity to try throwing, slab building or coiling. You will produce several pieces, the best of which you may wish to keep. We will finish your pots for you after they have dried and we will glaze them for collection at a later date, or we will send them to you when ready. As already stated above, the cost of this service will depend on what you have made and how much finishing is required but is a nominal amount just to cover our costs of finishing, firing and postage.

For more advanced students or amateurs seeking professional guidance our sessions can be tailored to suit individual needs. Throwing, hand building, design, surface decoration, glazing, kiln packing and firing can all be covered. We aim to help you with all aspects of pottery making. If you are an experienced potter who would just like workshop time, we are happy leave you to work and only intervene when you wish to have further guidance or help. If you live locally you may wish to take your pots through all the stages to finish them by booking further sessions.

I have been teaching and making pottery for over fifty years and all of this experience ensures that participants can be assured of the very best of in depth tuition and attention to detail. I have yet to have any students who failed while attending one of our pottery workshops, to make a worthwhile piece, and usually more than one.
