for the latest information about booking or attending any event or workshop.
Our pottery lessons and workshops are not ‘pottery party’ or ‘paint a pot’ days but are aimed at people who are looking for an opportunity to sample pottery in a more rewarding way.
A single afternoon learning to slab build, press mold or throw a pot, can be a rewarding experience resulting in the making of a ceramic piece to value for many years. We have no absolute age limit, but we recommend children should be over the age of twelve. In any event an adult must accompany young people below the age of sixteen.
Three-hour Morning sessions are held on Saturday Mornings only. 10am – 1pm.
Saturday morning sessions are always oversubscribed so please book early if you wish to take advantage of this time. A deposit against a booking will be taken for a Saturday morning booking.
We normally cater for no more than four people at any one session in order to ensure full tuition is given throughout. For a larger party, but no more than eight we will need to discuss requirements.
We are able to cater for absolute beginners and more advanced students alike. Our spacious and well-equipped studio ensures plenty of opportunity to try throwing, slab building, press molding or coiling. You will produce several pieces, the best of which you may wish to keep.
Because the nature of pottery making to the finished piece requires more time than can be allotted to an occasional visit, you can choose which of your work you wish to keep and we will finish, fire and glaze it, after which you can collect your work or we will send it to you at home. The cost of this service will depend on what you have made and how much finishing is required and postage if needed. It will be a nominal amount just to cover our costs. Payment for this service will need to be made on the day.
For more advanced students or amateurs seeking professional guidance our sessions can be tailored to suit individual needs. Throwing, hand building, design, surface decoration, glazing, kiln packing and firing can all be covered. We aim to help you with all aspects of pottery making. If you are an experienced potter who would just like to have a professional input, we are happy leave you to work and only intervene when you wish to have further guidance or help. If you live locally you may wish to take your pots through all the stages to finish them by booking further sessions.
I have been teaching and making pottery for over fifty years and all of this experience ensures that participants can be assured of the very best of in-depth tuition and attention to detail. I have yet to have any students who failed while attending one of our pottery workshops, to make a worthwhile piece, and usually more than one.
